The Maria Cleofas is a 131 foot research vessel designed to support an 12 person marine research team. The 10.080 kW PV Array consisting of 36 each 280 watt PV modules, (12 x Series, 3 x parallel) has been specified to offset diesel generator fuel costs by supporting all of the vessel’s critical electrical loads during daytime hours. A 4,734 amp hour VRLA 48 VDC battery system is used to absorb the heavy current draw from larger inductive loads such as air conditioning and refrigeration.
